A hot, passionate Saturday spent nurturing a coastal forest!

Sat 18 Mar 2023 – 35 volunteers spent a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon to further populate the coastal forest that we are helping NParks to establish at Kranji Coastal Nature Park (KCNP). And importantly too, we extended tender loving care to the recently planted saplings. Though a very hot day, the wonderful volunteers were cheery and made light work.

16 of us planted 42 saplings while another 19 tended to countless planted saplings: removing competing vegetation, topping up the soil/wood chip mixture and leaf litter layer around their bases. The work rate finally flattened some of the wood chip, leaf litter and soil supply piles!

A couple of us focused on giving some of the suffocating plants a good “haircut” too!

We’ve managed to keep the mortality of the plantings here to a minimum, thanks to our persistence at caring for the plants here!

All the photos on Flickr; see the Instagram post, and join us in April!

Habitat enrichment at Kranji Coastal nature park – registration is open for Saturday 1st and 15th April 2023

Join the NUS-NParks team in April as we continue our fortnightly habitat enhancement sessions at Kranji Coastal Nature Park (KCNP) to establish a coastal forest. Register on Eventbrite for these dates:

  • Saturday 1st April 2023: 4.00pm – 6.00pm
  • Saturday 15th April 2023: 4.00pm – 6.00pm

We will provide tender loving care to the recently planted saplings to enhance their survival, and supplement the existing vegetation with addtional planting, mostly with smaller plants, now that we have completed most of our tree-planting.

“March”ing on with habitat enhancements at KCNP – soil prep, sapling planting and protection

Join us this March as we continue to look after the coastal forest which we are helping Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve establish at the Kranji Coastal Nature Park.

Habitat Enhancement at KCNP on Saturday 4th & 18th Mar 2023: 4.00pm – 6.00pm – Register here

Join us to actively look after the newly-planted saplings (Sapling Protection Action) and/or to plant new saplings (Soil Prep & Tree Planting). Registration is required.

See you in March!

Express your love in February with habitat enhancement at KCNP

We took a break in January but the NUS Toddycats will be back to continue with our forest afforestation and habitat enhancement works at the Kranji Coastal Nature Park in February 2023.

Join us on either or both Saturdays (4th Feb, 18th Feb; 4-6pm), where we will be tending to the newly-planted saplings to help give them a higher chance of survival and speed up the afforestation process. This will include topping up soil and mulch at the stem bases, uprighting saplings that are leaning or have fallen over, and removing competiting vegetation.

On 18th Feb, we will also undertake soil preparations and tree planting. Click on the image to register.

We’ll be SPA-ing in November!

Our November sessions for Sapling Protection Action at Kranji Coastal Nature Park (KCNP) is now open for registration. Come, join us on an environmentally therapeutic session to tend to the newly planted saplings at KCNP to help accelerate the afforestation efforts there.
